Just outside my hotel entrance was a site where a concrete block house was being built, largely by hand. Both men and women were working the site. In this case, this woman was moving sand from the tractor into the site. I don't want to give the impression that Bangalore is completely impoverished. Most families have nice apartments in modern buildings like this. This is the Bangalore Palace. I am sad to say that it is in very poor condition inside, with holes in the ceilings and deteriorating decorations. This gentleman gave us the tour of the Bangalore Palace. He has worked for the Maharaja of Mysore for 65 years, starting when he was 12 years old. Cows room freely throughout the city. It is illegal to harm a cow. Here a small group were eating on a pile of garbage near the Bull Temple. The fruits on the left are coconuts, which are valued as a source of good water. This is before they grow brown and the white pulp starts to form. This is the famous Bull Temple, a Hindu shrine. The bull is carved from a single boulder then painted black.
